The background and mission of the Journal of Christian Higher Education, as a professional journal focused on the field of Christian higher education, are of great significance. The magazine was born to promote the exchange and cooperation of Christian higher education on a global scale, especially in China, a country with deep cultural heritage and diversified educational needs.

Since the middle and late 19th century, Christian education has developed gradually in China, showing a trend of specialization, systematization, advanced, cooperation and relative independence. With the establishment of the first Christian universities, these educational institutions not only focused on the training of religious leaders, but also began to integrate religion and education closely and realize missionary purposes through running schools. At the same time, they actively promoted the process of Sinicization and professionalization of education, although this process was slow in the early days.
