英语新课程标准，提倡重点培养学生实际运用语言的能力，倡导学生主动参与、乐于探究的学风，培养学生主动分析、解决问题及交流合作的能力。而作业是英语教学的一个重要环节，是课堂教学的延伸和补充。它是教师了解教学目标落实情况和学生知识和技能掌握情况的一种重要方式，对学生的学习起着诊断、巩固的作用，同时又为教师反思教学、改进教学策略提供了一定的依据。对处于英语学习初级阶段的初中生来说，合理设计作业不仅可以帮助他们巩固、反思和归纳所学知识，还能开阔他们的视野，提高其综合运用语言知识的能力。

一、提高作业布置的趣味性

传统教学中，教师习惯于抄抄背背的形式，让学生单纯的抄单词、抄课文，学生往往只需要机械重复就能够完成，缺乏对作业的思考，也容易让学生产生枯燥无趣的感觉，效果较差。教师应当积极改变这种情况，结合中学生好奇心强的特点，努力提高作业的趣味性，以唤起学生内心强烈的学习需求。举例来说，if引导的条件状语从句的复合句是中学英语中的一个重点内容，为了巩固巨型语法，教师可以设计一项“if接龙”的作业模式。也就是说，在前后意思连贯，具有较强的逻辑性这一前提下，学生可以开动脑筋，努力设计一些含有if的故事情节。这种模式不仅能够锻炼学生的英语语法，还能够充分调动起学生丰富的想象力，符合素质教育的方针，能够让学生在开阔的思维中提高英语水平。

二、灵动活泼的作业呈现类型

基础教育阶段，英语课程的任务之一，是让学生掌握一定的英语基础知识和技能，形成一定的综合语言运用能力。因此，作业形式应呈现书面、口头、实践、专题研究等多样形式。如根据教材特定主题自制海报、英语剪报、课外阅读材料分析、读后感、词汇速记卡、美文摘抄、编写英语藏头诗、编写或续写故事、发送电子邮件、撰写采访调查报告、表演短剧等等，这些任务相比传统的默写及习题类作业而言，更能充分调动学生的学习潜能，培养其兴趣，有利于优化教学效果，在发展学生语言能力的同时，拓展其思维能力，激发其想象力和创造潜能。

三、多层次适应学生个体差异

学生在智力水平、心理个性、认知结构、学习基础、学习动机等方面存在差异，学习能力发展不均衡。因此，教师在布置作业时，应尽量从各层次学生的实际出发，充分考虑每类学生发展区的差异，建立多层次的弹性作业结构，为各类学生设计难易适度的练习，让学生根据自己的学习能力及兴趣自由地选择，使每个学生通过不同难度、不同数量的作业练习，在原有的基础上均有提高，都能享受到成功的喜悦，拥有更大的自主发展空间。如果作业设计既新颖灵动，又适合学生的能力水平和经验，学生通常会觉得这项作业是有价值、有意义的，会非常投入，高效率地完成。而对于那些他们觉得没有意义的作业，常常持敷衍态度。

四、设计激励性作业

《英语课程标准》（实验稿）要求在学习过程进行情感和策略调整。以形成积极的学习态度。促进语言实际运用能力的提高。设计激励性作业，有助于培养学生积极主动的学习态度。 让学生“录制磁带”，进行评价，这样的课外作业对学生的学习起达到了一定的激励作用。语感是从不间断的朗读中潜移默化而来的，优美的语言、动听的语调，离不开经常性地反复听录音，但单调机械的重复听读很容易使学生产生厌倦心理。这时如果让学生模仿课文进行朗读并录下自己的声音，学生就会三番五次、不厌其烦地练习，不用老师号召就能达到最佳的教学效果。老师在每次听完学生作业后，录上一些自己的评语加以缪正，提出要求，进行鼓励。会使学生更乐于接受，师生间的距离便无形间地缩短了。激励性的评价可以让学生体会到成功的喜悦，从而激发了学生的学习动力。

五、师生结合评价作业

作业评价要改变以往的以教师为主的评价方式，让学生也参与到其中。教师可以将学生分成小组，组内成员进行作业的互评，这样能及时辅导到每个学生。当学生遇到一些不能把握的题目，教师要予以帮助，为学生进行讲解，争取让每一个人都能有所收获；对于有些爱钻牛角尖的学生，教师不能生硬地否决他们对某些知识的认识，而是要深入浅出，细致地进行讲解，这样才能避免学生下次犯相同的错误。

总之，为了保证学生按时完成作业，教师需要追根求源，分析问题成因，包括学生自身因素与教学因素，尤其是后者。不少教师侧重书面作业，形式单一，标准统一，忽略了学生的兴趣与个性差异，致使部分学生厌烦作业。教师应科学指导，精心设计，从学生的兴趣爱好入手，实现作业的多样化、趣味化，增加口头作业、实践类作业，让学生乐于作业，按时完成；考虑个体差异，注意作业的梯度性、层次性、适量性，让学生主动作业，独立作业；注重个别辅导，多元化评价，合作探究，学生相互督促，相互启发。
